Before working with Skylark, Macademia had a content management solution that couldn’t keep up with their growth ambitions. Skylark enabled them to automate complex processes, scale the volume of their content and expand from 8 markets to 190+ and 22 languages from just one.

In 2019, London-based Azoomee acquired Berlin-based Da Vinci Media and combined the brands under Macademia, a new Topco company. Under the Macademia umbrella, their Da Vinci and Azoomee brands are now loved by more than 65 million kids and families globally, up more than 35% since the end of 2019 when they first began using Skylark.

Their team started with an in-house solution featuring a CMS and scheduling tool connected to an SQL database with a limited UI. This made for a challenging user experience and required manual work to upload and curate media. As the volume of content grew, they needed a more fit-for-purpose solution.

“We were ready to grow and expand quickly, so we liked that Skylark was ready to be deployed quickly and had the best representation of data we've seen in a UI that was easy for non-technical people to use. Additionally, Skylark is media agnostic, so could handle video, audio and HTML 5 games. All of this made it very appealing.”

Skylark’s robust API helped the Macademia team develop a scheduling tool in a short amount of time. They were able to make tens and hundreds of thousands of calls with ease countless times a day. Skylark’s data model was also beneficial, accommodating multi-language needs and making it easy to pivot and evolve the product as it scaled across new territories. Since using Skylark, Macademia have achieved a more than 4x increase in content usage on their Da Vinci Kids and Azoomee mobile apps.

The Macademia brands, Azoomee and Da Vinci, have added several major new distribution partners to provide access to their content via Pay TV, VOD, and mobile/TV apps. These include Huawei, United Group, Comcast, Miko and many more.

“Skylark met all of our expectations. The technology helped us scale quickly, the customer support was always very good and the API documentation was better than other products we came across.”
